Duties and responsibilities

Under the observation of the Senior Specialist – Adolescents and HIV (HIV/AIDS Section), the intern will be:

·        Contributing to the Section’s knowledge management activity, including preparation of literature reviews, programmatic toolkits, programming briefs, advocacy pieces, landscape analyses, resource libraries, and technical updates on adolescent-responsive programming;

·        Engaging in efforts to promote the integration of groundbreaking and new programmatic tools within the country program and regional portfolios, learning from leading-edge practice in the field;

·        Involving in collaborative learning communities to promote the cutting-edge programming for the most marginalized and vulnerable groups, specifically, adolescents living with HIV, adolescent girls and young women at major risk of contracting HIV, adults from the key populations, and pregnant adolescents;

·        Contributing to high-level technical advocacy and strategy-making for key and priority groups of adolescents and young people living with and impacted by HIV;

·        Supporting strategic engagement of adolescent and youth networks within and beyond the global HIV, health, and gender response;

·        Partaking in the HQ-based technical assistance and technical interactions to regional and field offices;

·        Participating in planning and preparation for varying internal and external consultations and convenings;

Furthermore: 

·        The intern will be expected to take part in the section’s meetings, as well as other UNICEF meetings important to the intern including the seminar series for UNICEF interns. Guidance will be provided on a constant basis.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position, applicants should satisfy the following criteria:

·        Be studying for a bachelor’s, master or PhD degree or have graduated within the last two years.

·        The age limit for eligibility is 18 years minimum.

·        Fluent in at least one UN official language broadly used in the sub-Saharan Africa Region – specifically, English, French, and/or Portuguese;

·        Experience of gender equality at the local/community, national, or regional level;

·        Work experience in HIV and/or sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) programming

·        Applicants with obvious analytical skills will be favorite ones.

·        Strong writing skills are mandatory.
