Brief Description:
The Terra Summer Residency is an
annual international multidisciplinary programme for PhD scholars and artists.
Independent study for dissertations and artistic projects is encouraged, as are
focused seminars on current issues in American art, visual and material
culture, and artistic practise. Mentoring from recognised researchers and
artists is available, as well as guest lectures by artists, to stimulate
thought on more egalitarian, inclusive, and sustainable ways.

scholars get a $5,000 stipend (Artists get an additional $300 for materials)

Travel stipend (up to $500
for those coming from Europe

Up to $1,200 for those
travelling from the United States and Canada

Up to $1,500 for those

Eligibility:

Candidates from all over
the world are encouraged to apply.

All applicants must be
fluent in English because the program’s working language is English; knowledge
of French is a plus but not required.
Applicants can be one of the
following:
A) Doctoral students researching on American art and visual culture
from a variety of disciplines.
Except for architecture and commercial film/animation, all forms of visual art
are eligible.
Candidates who are currently working on their dissertations are especially
encouraged to apply.
B) At the time of application, artists with a Master of Fine Arts, other
master’s degree, or its equivalent.

should have a distinct numbering and labeling system that corresponds to the
title, medium size, date, and description)
Selections
are based on the following qualities:

The project’s relevance
and understanding of current issues in the field of American art and creative
practice
·
The project’s contribution
to providing expansive narratives of American art, including through
cross-cultural views; and the clarity of
·
The project’s thinking and
writing
·
The project’s feasibility
in terms of its timetable, work plan, and goals
·
Samples of previous work,
defined as the applicant’s previous work or studies’ aesthetic or academic
originality and rigor, as well as
·
Their previous artistic
and scholarly successes
·
Ability to contribute to a
collegial, intercultural, and interdisciplinary community by the candidate
