Brief Description:
The
Robert S. McNamara Fellowship Program (RSMFP) of the World Bank is now
accepting applications. (RSMFP) combines aspiring development economists from
developing countries with World Bank research economists, giving fellows
exclusive access to rigors policy-relevant research at the World Bank’s
Development Economics Vice Presidency (DEC).
Fellows
will work on high-quality, policy-relevant research projects under the
supervision of academics from the World Bank’s Development Impact Evaluation
(DIME) and Development Research Group departments.

Professional
Experience: Fellows will be working on
World Bank projects directly under the supervision of World Bank DEC
researchers, receive training in cutting-edge research practices and
technologies, and participate in World Bank operations. Fellows may contribute
to DEC’s published work, join field missions, co-author with DEC researchers or
directly engage with World Bank clients, depending on the nature of the
projects.
Capacity Building: At the start of the program, fellows will receive a
one-week technical onboarding, including training on reproducible research
practices. Fellows will participate in hands-on activities and seminars led by
top economists throughout the program to develop their skills further. Fellows
will improve their ability to identify, study, and write about important
development policy issues by working with DEC economists.
Research
Dissemination: Fellows will be asked to write
a blog about their fellowship research for DEC. This is an opportunity to
highlight their research and contribution to development policy debates. Each
year, the top 4 blogs will be published on DEC’s Let’s Talk Development blog.
Scholarship:

The RSMFP provides a competitive salary of $42,750 net of income
taxes for each fellow for an 8-months fellowship (paid in monthly
installments). Because the fellows will be housed at the World Bank in
Washington, D.C., the World Bank’s Human Resources Operations unit will assist
the selected candidates with their G4 visa application.

Please keep in mind that the fellowship does not cover travel
expenses.

Fellows will study current research standards, acquire new
econometric skills, and network with renowned researchers in their field
through working with World Bank DEC experts and their external academic
collaborators from top universities.

They will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to engage in
rigorous policy-relevant research and broaden their view on potential
development issues and how their study might address concerns in the poor
world.
Eligibility:
·
Applicants must be nationals of WBG member countries, with a
preference for developing-country nationals.
·
Master’s graduates or currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Economics or a
related field
·
Fluency in English
·
No one should be older than 35 years old (by June 30, 2022)
·
For the duration of the fellowship, you must be willing to
relocate to Washington, D.C.
