Duties and Responsibilities
The intern will:
·
Carry out research and
draft official documents relating to priorities of UNMAS;
·
Help in treaty-related
issues, including the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, the Convention on
Cluster Munitions, the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons, and
the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities;
·
Cooperate with other
relevant policy matters, including the application of explosive weapons in
populated areas;
·
Participate in
conferences and meetings of interest to UNMAS, and produce oral and written
briefing notes to colleagues;
·
Support the work of the
Inter-Agency Working Group on Mine Action;
·
Provide support to the
office’s engagement with the humanitarian community;
·
Contribute to the team’s
daily tasks as needed, including administration and communications issues;
·
Perform other tasks as
assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications
Education level
To qualify for a United Nations Internship Programme, Applicants
must meet the following conditions:
·
Be enrolled, or have
completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent,
or higher); OR
·
Be enrolled, or have
done, the final academic year of a first university degree program (min.
Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
·
Have computer literacy
in standard software applications.
·
Be sharply interested in
the work of the United Nations with a personal commitment to the principles of
the Charter.
·
Have the proven ability
to successfully communicate with people of diverse cultural backgrounds and
beliefs – which includes enthusiasm to realize and be tolerant of different
opinions and views.
Work Experience
·
Applicants to the United
Nations Internship Programme do not need to have professional work experience
while a field of study that is closely linked to the internship type that you
are applying for is mandatory.
Language competencies
·
Fluency in oral and
written English is imperative for the Internship Programme. Command of an
additional official UN language is an advantage.
