Brief Description:
1000 Girls, 1000 Futures is a
groundbreaking programme launched by the New York Academy of Sciences to engage
young women and girls interested in STEM professions and assist them advance
their careers through mentorship and the development of 21st-century skills.
For both students and mentors, the application period for the 2021/22 round of
the programme is already open.
What is the mechanism behind it?
Young women can learn
independently and collaborate on Launchpad, the academy’s unique online
learning platform, where they can work on projects at their own pace and use
their abilities to collaborate with other team members while being mentored
throughout the curriculum.

Eligibility:
Anyone between the ages of 13 and
17 can apply from anywhere in the world. Applicants must be high school
students or seeking an equivalent certification with a passion for STEM fields.
Required documents

All programme content and
communication will be conducted in English, therefore applicants must have a
strong command of the language, which will be checked during the application
process.

Time commitment: Students
will work on their projects at their own pace and must adhere to their mentors’
timetables.

Participation is
completely free of charge.

Mentoring qualifications
Applicants must meet the
following criteria to be considered as mentors for 1000 Girls 1000 Futures:
·
Self-identify as a woman
pursuing a Ph.D. in a STEM-related discipline or currently employed in a
STEM-related sector.
·
Be able to connect to the
internet via at least one communication route.
·
Possess the capacity to
communicate well in English, both orally and in writing.
·
From September to June, be
able to devote 3-5 hours per month to programme instruction and participation.
·
I’m passionate about
uniting and encouraging the next generation of young women around the world.
