Benefits of Scholarship:

A Rhodes scholarship covers:

·        All University and College fees;

·        The University application fee;

·        A living allowance (£15,144 per year);

·        One economy class air travel expense to Oxford at the beginning of the scholarship; and

·        One economy return flight to the student’s country of origin after the scholarship ends.

 

Eligibility:

To be eligible for global scholarships, students must meet the following criteria:

·        Nationality: Eligibility to any other Rhodes scholarship (except Global scholarship) renders you ineligible to apply for a Global Scholarship. Read more about that here.

·        Age: Upon 1 October 2020, you must be either at least 18 years old OR older candidates who did their first undergraduate degree later than usual are eligible too.

·        You have satisfied or will meet the criteria for completion of your first degree on or after 1 October 2019*.

·        Academic achievement: You must have completed (or shall complete by June / July 2021) an undergraduate level with a First Class or minimum GPA minimum of 3.70 out of 4.0 (or its equivalent).

·        English language: You must have an adequately high standard of English to meet the English language competency requirements of the University of Oxford.

·        If you do not succeed in your first application to the Rhodes Scholarships, you may subsequently re-apply only one more time (must be in the same constituency), subject to meeting the eligibility criteria.

Selection criteria

·        Selection Committee of the Rhodes scholarship confirms the awarding of scholarship without regard to financial means and in accordance with the eligibility requirements outlined above.

·        Your application for a Rhodes scholarship is for admission to the University of Oxford in October 2021; the scholarship cannot be postponed.

·        The Rhodes scholarship is granted only upon successful admission to the University of Oxford.

·        No candidate will win a scholarship if a sufficiently eligible candidate could not be found.

·        The decision of the Selection Committee is final.

Required documents

What documents you need to provide:

·        You must submit a completed application form online through the university’s website. All documentation must be submitted in English, or with their English translations.

·        You have to upload copies of official documents to outline your geographical background further and to demonstrate that you satisfy the age requirements, e.g., birth certificate, National Registration Card (NRC), passport, etc.

·        An official transcript from the college or university where you are studying or have studied before, showing grades earned (to date).

·        Evidence of English Language Proficiency. You should upload a copy of a standardized English test that is accepted by the University of Oxford (e.g., TOEFL / IELTS) along with the test’s marking scheme.

·        Please remember that the application form also contains an eligibility check. When you have completed the form, you should tick the box on the ‘Request Eligibility Check’ page, and a member of the team at Rhodes House will assess your eligibility for the Global Scholarship and approve or refuse the request. You cannot submit your application without approval from Rhodes House.

·        A full curriculum vitae including details about academic credentials, prizes, scholarships, positions of leadership, employment positions, engagement in student, voluntary, community or political activities, and any cultural, musical or sporting accomplishments in mandatory. Please do not attach a photograph in your CV.

·        A head-and-shoulders colored photograph (jpg format).

·        A personal statement not exceeding 1,000 words is .necessary The personal statement is your document to tell your story in your own voice: Who are you? What matters to you? What do you wish to do in the world? This essay allows you to cast the overarching narrative for the selection committee.

·        Please do not upload irrelevant documents, certificates, testimonials, or links / URLs.

Please ensure that your personal statement:

·        Addresses your general passions and activities. What motivates you? What are your passions?

·        Discusses your goals and priorities and the contributions you have made and hope to make to the world and/or your local community.

·        Shed light on your reasoning for wishing to study at the University of Oxford, which course/courses you would wish to follow, and why. If you win the Scholarship, you will have the opportunity to revisit your course option.

·        Demonstrates that you meet the entry and application requirements of the specific course you have selected.

·        If you wish to pursue a DPhil, you should provide a short proposal of your proposed research field, how it contributes to your future career plans, and list one or more researchers with whom you would like to do your research work in Oxford.

Furthermore, you will need to provide a list of five people (as your referees) who are willing to submit references on your behalf:

·        At least three of your referees have to be academics who have officially taught and graded you in your undergraduate (or, if relevant, postgraduate) studies and who can comprehensively comment on your academic decency and how well they think you would fit a course at Oxford.

·        The two other referees should comment on your character and/or your involvement in extra-curricular/service or leadership activities. These referees should be individuals who can comment critically on whether you fulfill the extra-curricular, non-academic requirements of the Scholarship and who can give assertions in detail on your behalf.

·        A good referee is one who understands you well, rather than a well-known person who only knows you superficially.

How to Apply?

·        You will be unable to submit your application for the Global Scholarship without prior nomination by your University. Each university has a definite number of nominations that they can make each year. You must choose and register the most appropriate nominator via the application form. Once the university receives your nomination, you will be allowed to submit your application form.

·        In preparing your application, you should thoroughly read the general information, mainly that available on the Scholarships tab, on the Rhodes website, the Conditions of Tenure for the Rhodes Scholarship, and the graduate admissions pages of the University of Oxford HERE.

·        Longlisted candidates might be invited to attend an initial interview via Skype

·        The university will invite shortlisted candidates to social engagement (reception and dinner) and a final interview. Candidates must attend both, in person, since no accommodations can be made on date and time, or mode, of these events. Interviews will be conducted at Rhodes House, Oxford, UK.

·        No candidate will qualify for the scholarship without an interview.
