Brief Description:

Nominations for the Yidan Prize for research and positive change or contributions in education are now open. Yidan Prize is an inclusive education award that recognizes persons or teams of up to three members who have contributed enormously to education research and development while also aiming to build a global community devoted to promoting ideas in education.

Benefits:

The Yidan Prize is granted in two categories:

Yidan Prize for Education Research

·        Awarded for substantial contribution to the science of education.

Yidan Prize for Education Development

·        Awarded for creating positive and sustainable change in education and learning.

·        Each prize includes a gold medal and a total value of HK$30 million (around US$3.9 million). Half of it is a money prize of HK$15 million. The other HK$15 million is a project funding to help them develop their initiatives.

·        If the winner is a team, each team member receives a certificate and a gold medal.

 

Eligibility:

·        Nominees from every country and geographic area are eligible for this prize.

·        There is no limitation to the age of applicants and the number of nominations to this prize.

Who are the nominators?

·        Typically, members of government bodies, non-governmental organizations, professional associations and individual thought leaders are the nominators for Yidan Prize.

·        The nominator should have a thorough understanding of the nominee(s’) work and impact.

Who can be the nominees?

·        Nominees can be either individuals or teams of up to three members. They can be teachers, researchers, academics, policymakers and education advocates. They can

·        Self-nominations are accepted, however, nominations after nominees’ death are not. Also, those who self-nominate should provide at least three letters of recommendation from supporters.

Who are supporters?

·        Supporters are people who have a comprehensive understanding of the nominee(s)’ work and approve the nominee(s)’ achievements.

·        For self-nominations, there are three supporters needed however for regular nominations the number is two.

Evaluation criteria

Nominations are evaluated according to a set of rigorous criteria to identify the most deserving individuals, including:

·        Future-oriented/forward-looking

·        Innovativeness

·        Being Transformative

·        Sustainable

 

How to Apply?

Nominators or nominees who self-nominate can submit their nominations through the foundation’s online platform. Nominators should first register their accounts and prepare their nominations.

Nomination documents

A nomination should include the following supporting documents:

·        The nominee(s)’ personal details.

·        CV of the nominee.

·        Minimum of two recommendation letters from supporters that endorse the nominee(s)’ achievement.

·        Each supporter’s personal details, and a soft copy of their business card.

·        For the Education Research category, at least one and up to five soft copies of the most relevant published research by the nominee(s).

·        A 2-minute video from the nominee(s) on how they would spend the project funding of HK$15 million (up to US$1.9million) if selected as the laureate(s).

Tips:

All nominations and supporting documents must be submitted in English through the online platform.

Nomination form completed in English within the word count assigned to each section.
